Discovery Notes | The soil sample was collected on August 19, 2014 at 4:45 pm at GPS coordinates 38°28’06.5”N, 77°22’25.3”W. The air temperature was approximately 26°C. The soil was moderately dry and covered with dry leaves. The site was located about 30 ft away from a house and there were a few trees at a distance of about 8 ft. The sample was taken from under a trampoline at a depth of about 8 cm, so it never received direct rain or traffic of any kind. This dry area was not expected to yield a high chance of isolating a phage, but it was chosen in order to have a sample different from others’. |
