Naming NotesOur phage is named, “Metroid,” after an iconic creature from the Nintendo franchise of the same name. Nintendo’s Metroids are parasitic alien life forms, some of which resemble the basic anatomy of a phage. Our phage’s namesake was also genetically engineered to prey upon and eradicate another, more dangerous alien contagion. This is analogous to the fact that bacteriophages are useful in medicine for their ability to target disease-causing bacteria.
