Discovery NotesThe location of this sample was from a forested area in the Tuckahoe area where the top layer was mostly mulch and dead plant life, such as leaves, roots, and sticks. This sample is from a residential, suburban area with animal life including birds, squirrels, and rarely raccoons. The plant life surrounding the sample location included developing and mature cedar trees, but grass and shrubs could be located around 20 feet from the sample location. The sample was retrieved by hand and directly placed into a Ziploc bag and placed in a refrigerator overnight with a damp paper towel to prevent dehydration. The top layer of the soil, the dead organic matter, was brushed aside and the top two inches of the soil underneath was collected for the sample.
