Discovery Notes | I collected my soil sample from my community garden in Severn MD at 8316 Canyon Oak Dr, at GPS coordinates 39.137216° N, 76.691223° W. The soil was collected on August 25th at 73 F, it was fairly moist and near the topsoil layer and was collected in a zip lock bag and transferred to the University of Mary Washington for isolation. |
Naming Notes | Its my name and the morphology reminded me of myself. The plaques I found were small but that means the genome is large which is similar to my small stature but bigger muscles. |

Plaque Notes | I was able to count approximately 23 plaques with all similar morphology and approximately 1.5 mm in width. Each time a plaque was picked they had similar shape and structures and it took a very short time for the plaques to form approximately 24 hours. Since every single plaque was small, this correlates to the size of the genome. Since the plaques are smaller, the genomes are predictably going to be larger because it takes longer to copy a long piece of DNA, so the plaques will be much smaller. The plaques observed were most likely lytic phages as there were no signs of foggy or halo shaped plaques. The similar morphologies are signs that the phage sample was isolated as each plaque was similar in size and shape. |
