Discovery Notes | A soil sample was collected in the front yard of a house in Durham, North Carolina, with the specific GPS coordinates of 35.930610°, 78.967291°. The temperature outside was approximately 33°C. The soil was collected at approximately 2-3 centimeters below the surface and was observed to be moist, medium-brown in color, and it appeared to be a mix of sand and clay. |
Naming Notes | Even after repeated attempts at isolation, purification, and extraction of a phage and its DNA, this particular phage did not quite hold up to the standards it needed to. The whole laboratory ordeal seemed a bit like a figment of our imagination, and thus, I named my phage "Figment". |

Plaque Notes | Each time that plaques were picked, the plaques looked fairly similar: a clear plaque of approximately 2-3 mm and a margin of 0.5-1 cm. This plaque size corresponds to a phage of medium-strength since the plaques were neither very large nor very small. |
